This Tzedakah Box measures 5 inches tall, 3 inches wide and 2 inches deep.
Tzedakah Boxes are a traditional item, used to hold change to donate to the poor. Having such an item in a child's room teaches the joy of giving and the act of performing a "mitzvah", or good act.
The Tzedakah Box was made from a steel canister which was primed and painted by hand. I sculpted the little alphabet blocks. With my hand tools, I cut the coin slot in the lid. The whole box was then coated with numerous applications of an acrylic finish, giving it a beautiful and protective glossy finish. An inscription on the box reads " With each new child, the world begins anew", which is from the Talmud.
This item would make a beautiful and meaningful gift at a baby shower, a bris or baby naming ceremony, or birthday or Hanukkah gift. It was designed with quality and care and can last for generations.
